NEADS (National Education for Assistance Dog Services, also known as Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 1976 and is based in Princeton, Massachusetts.

Our Service Dogs become an extension of their handlers and bring freedom, physical autonomy and relief from social isolation to their human partners who are deaf or have a disability. NEADS receives very limited federal government funding and relies on the support of individuals, foundations, corporations, service organizations, bequests and workplace campaigns.

In January, Pepper celebrated her 1st Birthday and has learned almost everything in the NEADS training curriculum, and now her skills are being fine-tuned as she matures. Since September, Pepper has learned how to such as retrieving dropped objects, turning light switches on and off, and pushing automatic accessible door buttons tug and hold open a heavy door so a potential client can go through the doorway, and how to find a misplaced phone by the smell of vanilla extract in case of an emergency.

Pepper still continues to visit shopping malls, towns and cities, nursing homes, grocery stores, and sit-down restaurants with her weekend raiser. Pepper and her weekend raiser are now exploring historical parks like our other pup, Daisey!

As of January, Daisey is now 7 months old and is moving into Level 2, of 12 in the Weekend Raiser socialization curriculum. She has been taught the basic cues and commands and their handlers will continue to review the basics and begin to introduce the next level of commands.

In addition to the next level of commands, Daisey will also begin focusing on Service Dog tasks, some of which include: turning light switches on and off, retrieving articles, picking up dropped objects, pushing elevator buttons, and pushing automatic accessible door buttons. All of this training is done under the supervision of NEADS Senior Trainers.

With the addition of our newest adoption, came Daisey's sister, Rosey! Rosey is also located at the Laura J. Niles Early Learning Center (ELC) on the NEADS Learning Campus. Daisey and Rosey are enjoying the sunny weather with lots of outside play time!

are doing throughout their NEADS training!
